The 7.1 magnitude Mexico earthquake struck on September 19, as the area still recovered from an 8.1 magnitude earthquake two weeks earlier. This most recent earthquake toppled buildings in Mexico City and areas southward, killing several hundred people and causing widespread damage to homes, schools, businesses, and infrastructure.
