There is a growing momentum for public health to contribute to programs, policies, and innovative interventions to promote health and well-being for people as they age. While public health efforts are partly responsible for the dramatic increases in longevity over the twentieth century, historically there have been limited collaborations across the public health and aging fields. Since 2017, Trust for America’s Health, with the support of The John A. Hartford Foundation, has led the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems (AFPHS) initiative to make the health and well-being of older adults a public health priority. This work has spread to multiple states, including Florida, Michigan, Mississippi and Washington.

Join Grantmakers In Aging to learn about the Age-Friendly Public Health Systems initiative and how the initiative’s framework has been put into action with multiple stakeholders and partners across the country. Leave with actionable steps that funders can take to help public health departments recognize the need to focus on older adults as a public health priority.
