One of the world’s largest problems for centuries has been starvation. Those without jobs or homes are struggling to get enough food to survive for the day. It’s a scary situation to be in. One of the largest contributing factors to world hunger is food waste. According to a report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), if we could salvage just one-third of our country’s food waste, we could feed the millions of Americans suffering from starvation.

Then the big question becomes: “How do we redirect food from those with too much of it to those without enough?” A new startup is looking to answer that question with technology.

Founded in Boston in 2015 by alumni of two of the leading startup accelerator programs in the country (Techstars and MassChallenge), Spoiler Alert is looking to end world hunger through big data and software. Spoiler Alert offers a software suite that allows businesses to track their food sales as well as acts as an online marketplace for selling and donating food. The beauty of the software is that it completely streamlines the process of managing food inventory for virtually every aspect of the food industry. Everyone from food manufacturers to distributors and grocery retailers can utilize Spoiler Alert in order to minimize the impact of unsold inventory.
