Giving Compass' Take:

• Our partner, GlobalGiving, lists 10 nonprofit finalists and five honorable mentions who’ve demonstrated their commitment to learning and effectiveness in 2018.

• From education in Africa to an animal sanctuary in India, there are a vast array of  causes represented here, and many lessons for other organizations to learn. How can we all improve our measurement skills next year?

• Here's why the feedback movement is such a vital part of achieving impact philanthropy.

GG Rewards is GlobalGiving’s system for measuring and rewarding nonprofit commitment to learning and effectiveness. The most successful businesses and nonprofits make feedback part of everything they do. They listen to the people they intend to help. They act on what they heard, trying out new ideas and making feedback a part of every project. They learn from their results and adapt their programs and services to improve. GlobalGiving partners who Listen, Act, Learn. Repeat. can earn Effectiveness Points through GG Rewards. With every point they earn, they’re more likely to gain visibility on GlobalGiving.

GlobalGiving’s Top 10 List features 10 nonprofits that have demonstrated a commitment to impact by earning the highest quantity of Effectiveness Points. The List also includes five Honorable Mentions selected by GlobalGiving staff. The first place winner received a $1,000 grant from GlobalGiving, and the other nine and the Honorable Mentions each received $500.

First Place Winner: Develop Africa (committed to education). The Develop Africa team was meeting the organization’s goals and staying true to their mission, but with success came expansion. Their leadership couldn’t help but wonder: Were they spreading themselves too thin?

As the organization grew, the management team at Develop Africa needed to ensure their staff wasn’t overworked. They used the SWOT Analysis Worksheet to examine their organization’s strengths and weakness and to discover potential threats and opportunities for the future.
