2018 Grantmakers in Aging Conference

Host Organization: Grantmakers in Aging

About

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Each year, in October, GIA holds its Annual Conference, with more than 200 top local and national funders, in one of America’s great cities.

For 2018, we’re excited to bring the meeting to Memphis, Tennessee — the birthplace of rock and roll and home to the world’s best barbecue. Our venue is The Peabody Hotel, Memphis, whose iconic rooftop provides spectacular views of the Mississippi River and a great Southern city which has worked hard in America's ongoing struggle to ensure that the rights of all citizens are met. Memphis is also the site of some innovative programs designed to benefit older adults.

For example, the Plough Foundation has spearheaded an Aging Initiative for nearly four years, engaging in research, collaboration, and idea-sharing to identify and address the most pressing issues facing older citizens living in the city and surrounding Shelby County. Along with the work of local government and scores of community partners, the result is the slow but steady transformation of a great city into an even better one — a city that offers anyone, regardless of age, the highest quality of life.

We couldn’t think of a more fitting backdrop for GIA’s 2018 Annual Conference and look forward to convening with our members and our extended network of thought-leaders and changemakers. We hope you’ll join us, both in the convention halls and at the landmarks, such as Graceland and Beale Street, that make Memphis so unique.
