Each year, in October, GIA holds its Annual Conference, with more than 200 top local and national funders, in one of America’s great cities. For 2019, we’re excited to bring the meeting to New York City — a melting pot of unique people, places, and points of view. Our venue is The New York Marriott Downtown, close to the Statute of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the 9/11 Tribute and Museum. New York City is also home to numerous creative innovative programs that benefit older adults.
For example, The John A. Hartford Foundation, collaborating with local funding partners, has been working to create a movement of age-friendly health systems. Integral to this work has been support for New York City hospitals, universities, and nonprofits to develop model programs that emphasize the “4Ms,” which include: (1) What Matters? Know and align care with each older adult’s specific health outcome goals and care preferences, including, but not limited to, family caregivers, end-of-life care, and across settings of care. (2) Medications. If medication is necessary, use age-friendly medications that do not interfere with What Matters to the older adult. (3) Mentation. Prevent, identify, treat, and manage dementia, depression, and delirium across settings of care. (4) Mobility. Ensure that older adults move safely every day to maintain function and do What Matters.
New York City is an exciting venue for GIA’s 2019 Annual Conference, which promises to be an invigorating forum to learn from and network with aging philanthropy colleagues who think and act beyond boundaries every day. We hope that you will join us, both in the conference rooms, as well at local sites and attractions, such as Central Park, Broadway theaters and many, many more.
Any organization eligible for GIA membership is eligible to attend the annual conference. This includes donors, trustees, staff, and consultants of foundations, and corporate giving programs. If you have any questions on eligibility to attend, please contact Maria Gonzales Jackson at mgonzalesjackson@giaging.org.
Non-Solicitation Policy: All Annual Conference attendees agree to follow a strict policy of non-solicitation at the Annual Conference. GIA policy prohibits any form of solicitation of its members or other grantmakers during or after the Annual Conference.
Since a vital role of Grantmakers in Aging (GIA) is to provide an opportunity for grantmakers to meet in a collegial and respectful atmosphere, it is not appropriate to solicit donations at GIA programs, events and other functions. Collaborative grantmaking is encouraged. Organizations that have a dual grantmaking and grantseeking role agree that their development staff will not utilize GIA activities or resources for fundraising/development purposes.
To receive the membership rate, you must be a current member of GIA. Please check on Member Roster.
