Activating Philanthropy’s Power for Change: Tools to Advance Equity and Inclusion

Host Organization: Iowa Council of Foundations

About

Foundations are unique entities that hold enormous power and privilege. And because power is not often discussed openly and directly in the philanthropic sector, it tends to grow in unintentional ways that mirror and exacerbate existing power structures. Too often, foundation leaders act from power they are unaware that they wield. This embedded, seemingly invisible culture and privilege informs how a foundation decides what is “normal,” “good,” “effective” or “risky.”

The session will introduce Power Moves: Your Essential Philanthropy Assessment Guide for Equity and Justice, an innovative resource for funders from the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP). Power Moves helps funders examine their power and fully activate it to create change – with humility and attention to privilege.

Join us for this interactive session on how Power Moves can help you redefine risk to more effectively build, share and wield power for equity and justice.
