Understanding your Nonprofit’s Finances is not only a core responsiblity for all board members but can help you communicate effectively about your organization when talking with funders or potential donors.

This workshop teaches financial statement speed-reading tricks and outlines some of the indicators that board members sometimes overlook when they are exercising their fiduciary duties. We will talk about what the numbers mean, how they can be improved by your organization and how to spot the issues that catch the attention of external reviewers .

By the end of the session participants will:

1. Understand key nonprofit accounting terminology,
2. Understand and interpret basic non-profit financial statements and Form 990,
3. Be empowered to ask questions and identify ‘red flags’ in your organization’s financial statements and Form 990.
