More than 300 human rights defenders were murdered in 2017 across the globe. Many of these defenders faced coordinated opposition to defame, intimidate, and marginalize human rights activists who were working for systemic change. In spite of this violence, there is an increase in human rights defenders worldwide and a stronger need to elevate their voices, support their work, and ultimately protect their well-being.
