EPIP New York: Board Leadership Institute

Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy

About

Join us for a half day, interactive workshop that is all about nonprofit Board preparation and Board leadership, and Board service.

If you have ever wondered why we need nonprofit Boards, what the role of a Board is, or have thought about joining a Board in the near or far future, this is the workshop for you. Not only will we learn the technical side of Board service, but you will also be assigned a nonprofit, and will be given a chance to work together during the workshop to make decisions including budget, mission, vision, and roles. This is a workshop that will bring together professionals from across the nonprofit and philanthropic ecosystem.

Professionals who serve on nonprofit boards describe a strong sense of personal gratification, unique networking opportunities, and broader insights into leadership than they might otherwise encounter through their day jobs. This level of volunteerism can be very rewarding if you are prepared for the experience.

Leveraging Your Talents for the Nonprofit Sector is an interactive workshop designed to equip you with the tools you need to serve with confidence and provide effective leadership. In this safe environment, we will also address issues of particular concern to diverse individuals who want to make an impact.

Topics covered include:

  • Board Roles and Responsibilities
  • Finding the Right Board
  • Practical Considerations Before Saying “Yes”
  • Potential Areas of Liabilities
  • Relevant Skills Every Board Should Have
  • Emerging Trends in Nonprofit Board Service, and Why We Need Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity

Pre-workshop materials will be sent out to ensure that the workshop is tailored to the audience. We want your questions, ideas, and experiences to inform the workshop. See you there!
