Fostering Equity and Inclusion in the STEM Society

Institute for Systems Biology and Town Hall Seattle

About

Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is a collaborative cross-disciplinary nonprofit biomedical research organization based in Seattle. In 2020, ISB is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a four-part virtual speaker series highlighting some of the most important topics in science and health care. ISB and Town Hall Seattle proudly present Dr. Knatokie Ford, an international advocate for STEM and media inclusion, biomedical scientist, and social entrepreneur.

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields are essential to America’s economic growth and global competitiveness, but have faced persistent issues with attracting and retaining diverse talent. Dr. Knatokie Ford joins us for a livestreamed conversation with Dr. Jim Heath to share her inspiring journey as well as insights on the challenges and effective interventions that can empower key stakeholders in the STEM ecosystem, such as students, parents, and educators.

Knatokie Ford, PhD. is Founder and CEO of Fly Sci Enterprise, an education and media consulting organization focused on leveraging the power of storytelling to promote social change, particularly in STEM fields. Previously, Dr. Ford served as Senior Policy Advisor in the Obama White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where she designed and led the “Image of STEM” project.
