Grantmakers in Aging 2020 Annual Conference: Bigger, Bolder, Older Real Connections

Grantmakers in Aging

About

As more of us live longer and, in many cases, healthier lives, our country, and our communities have an exciting opportunity to reimagine aging in America. This means finding new ways to enable more of us to contribute longer. We are also living through an extraordinary and challenging time. As we grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic and the movement to accelerate social and racial justice – both issues that powerfully affect older people — this also means speaking up, helping others understand that aging is a lifelong process relevant to a wide range of issues, harnessing the power of innovation to meet the needs of the frailest and isolated among us, and championing issues that matter to older people.

To accomplish this, we need to work together and make our big tent even bigger. This year’s GIA Annual Conference will highlight exciting initiatives and ideas relevant not just to traditional aging funders, but also to those who work on health and mental health; equity and inclusion; children, families, and intergenerational opportunities; mobility and transportation; rural issues; education; employment and economic security; and much more. This bold and expansive perspective on our common work helps us bring an aging lens to more projects, pointing us to new partners and creating a broader philanthropic constituency committed to better ways to respond to an older America.

New Virtual Format, Same Community Feeling

While we will not be together in person, we are excited to connect and learn together.

The pandemic has highlighted the intersection of aging with our country’s larger social inequities, inspiring us to act as champions and amplify the vital contributions older adults make to resilient families, vibrant communities, and a more just nation.

With dynamic workshops, presentations, and speakers, GIA will continue to serve as a vital resource to our members. From urgently needed long-term care reform to new approaches in creative aging, expect to get a vibrant snapshot of the most important ideas in our field.
