Hurricane Ian: Responding to a catastrophic storm

After sweeping through Cuba, Hurricane Ian hit Florida as a high Category 4 storm. Reminiscent in strength and location of 2004’s Hurricane Charley, which caused $17 billion in damages, Ian’s impact will be even more significant. After crossing Florida, Ian is expected to hit South Carolina and Georgia.

Philanthropy Southeast is hosting a webinar in partnership with the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to help foundation, corporate and individual donors learn about the storm, the impact of the devastating wind and flooding and how they can help affected communities.

Philanthropy Southeast and guest experts will discuss managing the needs in highly populated areas with large numbers of older adults and residents whose second language is English.

At the end of the webinar, funders will:

1. Have an overview of the flooding and damage from Hurricane Ian.
2. Understand how to best support community organizations working on the ground.
3. Learn about the unique needs of different populations in disaster recovery.

While aimed at donors, it may also be of interest to emergency managers, academics, disaster responders and NGO staff interested in or working on disasters and other crises.
