The Impossible Presidency and Foreign Policy

Host Organization: World Affairs Council

About

Does the very vastness of the presidency, the most powerful office in the world, inevitably mean that U.S. presidents are bound to fail? Does U.S. foreign policy necessarily suffer from a lack of bold vision because of the constraints of the Oval Office?

Join the World Affairs Council for a conversation with Jeremi Suri, the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs and Professor of Public Affairs and History at the University of Texas at Austin. Suri will offer his perspective on how previous presidents have added to the foreign policy mandate of the highest office and why presidential promise and structural limitations clash in the around-the-clock news cycle of the modern presidency.
