On January 17th, the Jewish Social Justice Roundtable – a network of 64 Jewish organizations pursuing social justice from a Jewish perspective – will host a webinar for U.S. Jewish leaders to explore how they can apply core principles of racial justice and equity to their organizations.
“At a time when incidents of racism and anti-Semitism continue to escalate, Jewish leaders have a responsibility to examine our own biases and put our values into practice to build equitable spaces that will help our entire community thrive,” said Abby Levine, Director of the Jewish Social Justice Roundtable (JSJR).
April Baskin, JSJR’s Racial Justice Director added, “As members of a multiracial community, Jews have varied understandings of and complex encounters with racism. That’s why we are proud to share the Racial Justice Framework. It is the next iteration of our collective action, in light of our work over the course of three years.”
Since 2016, the Roundtable has implemented eight in-person racial justice trainings in Berkeley/Oakland, Washington, D.C., Boston, New York City, and Detroit, engaging over 250 staff leaders from more than 50 organizations.
The webinar on January 17th will build on the strengths of these gatherings and offer many more leaders a chance to learn how to champion racial justice and equity in Jewish communal contexts and beyond.
Webinar participants will have the opportunity to:
- hear directly from April Baskin, the Roundtable’s Racial Justice Director and author of the Framework;
- understand how the Roundtable’s Racial Justice Framework can strengthen organizational culture; and
- learn how some Jewish organizations have already put the Roundtable’s Racial Justice Framework into practice.
