Studies show that the percentage of people of color in the executive director/CEO role has remained under 20% for the past 15 years, even as the country becomes more diverse. For women of color, the combination of race and gender biases create additional barriers to advancement. Despite advanced degrees, women of color are least likely to hold leadership positions and most likely to hold line staff positions.
In Building Movement Project’s (BMP’s) latest Race to Lead report, Race to Lead: Women of Color in the Nonprofit Sector, BMP applies an intersectional analysis to the Race to Lead data of over 4,000 staff in the nonprofit sector. The study reveals the systemic barriers women of color face as they ascend to leadership and the continued challenges once they get there.
Join us for a presentation highlighting the findings, followed by a panel of seasoned professionals reflecting on the BMP findings and their own experiences in the sector.
