Reaffirming Action, Access, and Support for Black and Latinx Young Men in Higher Education

Host Organization: New York City Youth and Education Funders and Philanthropy New York

About

Join us for an in-person panel discussion to learn more about the current landscape for equitable post-secondary pathways for Black and Latinx Young Men. We will explore how nonprofit leaders are uniquely supporting these students and how philanthropy can make an impact, especially within the context of the recent Affirmative Action decision. Please read more about the issue here.

What will you learn?

  • The root causes and barriers to young people of color accessing higher education, given that most institutions have historically excluded people of color, and how nonprofit leaders are facilitating persistence
  • Key challenges faced by Black and Latinx young men in navigating post-secondary pathways, as captured by nonprofit leaders in the space
  • The importance of innovative programs that are holistically supporting Black and Latinx young men, from both an academic enrichment and social-emotional learning approach, while also creating spaces of belonging at post-secondary institutions
  • How the recent decision around Affirmative Action will likely impact access to higher education for communities of color and how philanthropy should respond
