Creative aging programs provide older adults with a renewed sense of purpose, improved wellbeing and connection with others. Despite the amazing impact of these programs, funders of aging services have been slow to embrace them. Recognizing the need for these programs across the country, Aroha Philanthropies, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, developed a major multi-year initiative, Seeding Vitality Arts (SVA), in 2016.
Using a learning cohort model, Aroha is equipping grantees with the tools needed to create highly successful arts programs. Aroha's partner, Lifetime Arts, provides intensive training and technical assistance to grantees, and Touchstone Center for Collaborative Inquiry developed an evaluation protocol. Since 2016, Aroha has seeded Vitality Arts programs in 50 nonprofit organizations working in three learning cohorts across the United States.
