The Andrus Family Fund (AFF) and Communities for Just Schools Fund (CJSF) invites you to join us for an Education Anew: Shifting Justice (EASJ) virtual plenary session, “The Road to Abolition” on December 2nd from 2 – 4pm EDT.

As the nation navigates the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and racial injustice, we are witnessing historic wins that were decades in the making. The call to #defundthepolice is a national rallying cry for communities as they continue to call for the removal of police from schools, cutting police budgets, the closure of prisons, and an interrogation of the harmful practices of child welfare system. The surveillance and criminalization of BIPOC communities cuts across systems.

During this virtual plenary we will learn from movement organizers and leaders about the call for abolition and what it means at this moment, how communities were poised to take advantage of this moment, and share the strategies and victories that are leading us towards abolition. Lastly, we will discuss what is on the other side of a carceral state as we reimagine community-safety and care for families and communities.
