Who Should Attend
People and organizations (everyone) who support and/or are working to uplift Men and Boys & Women and Girls of Color in California are welcome to attend the 2017 Uplifting Men/Boys & Women/Girls of Color in California Conference. Students and youth of color are strongly encouraged to attend, welcome to participate in discussions and partake in all conference events. Also, adults who work with, or whose work impacts/is intended to impact, MBOC/WGOC are also strongly encouraged to attend including: Advocates, Coalition members, Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence, Educators, Gang Prevention and Intervention Task Force participants, Mental Health professionals, My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) projects, Public Health professionals, Researchers, School District personnel, Students, Teachers, Trauma Prevention, Violence Prevention experts, Youth Development.
On Monday, October 9, 2017 the, Alliance for Boys and Men of Color; Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health; Black Women for Wellness; Californian’s for Safety and Justice; Centinela Youth Services; Community Intelligence; a Culver City – City Council Member; Fair Chance Project; Holman United Methodist Church; Hope and Heal Fund; Ramsey Jay, Jr.; Long Beach Department Health and Human Services; Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Economic Opportunity; Making Conections Network; Movember Foundation; National Asian Pacific American Families Against Substance Abuse; National Compadres Network; Pacific Oaks College; Peace Over Violence; PolicyLink; Prevention Institute; Project Fatherhood -Children’s Institute, Inc.; RISE Design Lab; Sacramento City Unified School District, Youth Development Support Services; Sacramento Gang Prevention and Intervention Task Force; Social Justice Learning Institute; Southern California Public Health Association; The Positive Results Corporation; United Women of East Africa; Violence Policy Center; Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater Los Angeles; 59th California Assembly District Office; and, the 64th California Assembly District Office are partnering to convene a diverse set of professionals to explore opportunities, actions and strategies that can be utilized to Uplift Men/Boys and Women/Girls of Color (MBOC/WGOC) and accomplish My Brothers/My Sister’s Keeper (MBK/MSK) objectives in California. Speakers include public health and mental health practitioners, non-profit organizations, health departments, policy-makers, funders, artists, community advocates, law enforcement and probation, researchers, school personnel, local elected officials and youth. We expect a crowd of up to 200+ participants representing dozens of organizations convening to learn more about tools and concepts that can be used to uplift men/boys and women/girls of color in California.
