Why Fiscal Sponsorship and Why Now?

This workshop is your one-stop shop for an overview of fiscal sponsorship! We will cover the history of fiscal sponsorships, basic mechanics and how fiscal sponsorship is evolving as a powerful way to offer more equitable and sustainable access to nonprofit resources, in particular for historically marginalized communities.

The Social Impact Commons team will highlight how fiscal sponsorship has become a solution for equitable grantmaking as well as rapid deployment of philanthropic resources in the face of an increasing cadence of natural disasters and social unrest. In particular, this workshop will address considerations and readiness needs for funders.

This training will answer:

• What is fiscal sponsorship and how does it work?
• What are the different “models” of fiscal sponsorship and what are the practical considerations for funders?
• What is the economic and operational rationale for fiscal sponsorship and collective capacity building?
• How can fiscal sponsorship be an engine for greater equity, diversity, inclusion and access?
• What can funders do to support equity-driven fiscal sponsors on their journey towards deeper impact?
