Workshop: Philanthropy's Reflective Practices

Host Organization: Philanthropy Northwest

About

We are thrilled to offer this exclusive workshop with Jan Jaffe, the author of Philanthropy's Reflective Practices, to dive deep on some of the most high-impact practices in the guide.

The workshop will introduce participants to reflective practice as a critical element to navigate important challenges in philanthropic work when meaningful connections with grantees, partners, colleagues, or trustees are key to advancing a goal or solving a problem. Participants will learn about Philanthropy’s Reflective Practice Project and how to contribute to as well as use its resources. In addition, participants will “test drive” 3-4 methods featured in the recent guide published by The Giving Practice against something that they are passionate about in their work.

Participants will engage in the following activities:

  • Share a project or a program they are working on that is important to them and why.
  • Discover the role(s) they need to occupy to advance the project or program to the next level. Identify their strengths and challenges in roles.
  • Practice using a “third object” to develop meaningful connections with key partners when a project or program is stuck or experiencing problems.
