The Community Fund helps the Brooklyn Foundation carry out its vision for a fair and just Brooklyn. It's the first and only public foundation solely dedicated to Brooklyn’s charitable community, working in partnership with donors and community leaders to bolster vital nonprofits, strengthen neighborhoods, and increase opportunities for youth. The community fund is a flexible source of support for the Foundation’s strategic initiatives, grantmaking, and leadership activities. It enables the Foundation to effectively respond to the needs of Brooklyn over time, in partnership with dedicated donors and stakeholders on the frontlines of social change.

The Brooklyn Fund's uses a racial justice lens in its core strategies of supporting youth (youth development, youth justice, and immigrants and families); neighborhoods (community-led grantmaking), and nonprofits (through an incubator) in Brooklyn, NY.

About the Host

The Brooklyn Community Foundation seeks to mobilize people, capital, and expertise for a fair and just Brooklyn. The foundation’s approach has three components: First, listening to and engaging the community; second, building on what’s working, and funding and supporting successful programs; third, trying new things, and when something works, investing in its continued success. Brooklyn has an unprecedented opportunity to build a sustainable source of support for its communities, led by the ideas and resources of its communities. As a start-up community foundation, the Brooklyn Foundation is assembling a community of donors committed to taking on Brooklyn’s challenges today, while fostering a powerful resource for the future.
