Communities for Just Schools Fund

Host Organization: New Venture Fund Washington, D.C., United States newventurefund.org/

About

Communities for Just Schools Fund is a donor collaborative that supports community-led organizations working to ensure positive and supportive school climates that affirm and foster the success of all students. There are far too many students who find themselves being policed and targeted for exclusion from their schools because of flawed school policies and practices and flawed perceptions of them and their communities. Communities for Just Schools Fund awards grants to groups that organize young people, parents and caregivers, educators, and other community members to advocate on behalf of students who are disproportionately impacted by the over-use of exclusionary school discipline practices, including suspensions, expulsions, and arrests in schools.

Communities for Just Schools Fund aims to end harsh and punitive school discipline practices and policies, including responses from law enforcement, that unfairly and disproportionately impact students of color including students impacted by bias nationwide.

About the Host

The New Venture Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity, supports innovative and effective public interest projects. NVF was established in 2006 in response to demand from leading philanthropists for an efficient, cost-effective, and time-saving platform to launch and operate charitable projects. We execute a range of donor-driven public interest projects in conservation, global health, public policy, international development, education, disaster recovery, and the arts. More than half of the 50 largest US grantmaking foundations have funded projects hosted at NVF, including 8 of the top 10.
