Fund for Safe Communities

Host Organization: Minneapolis Foundation Minneapolis, MN, USA minneapolisfoundation.org/

About

The Fund for Safe Communities was established in 2018 to support tangible, specific, and meaningful actions to address and prevent violence. The inaugural grant round took place in the spring of 2020 under the leadership of an advisory committee made up of emerging leaders who have personal experience with community violence.

Through this fund, we distribute grants for direct service programs, communication, advocacy, and organizing led by community-based organizations. We prioritize efforts that are led and influenced by Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and which are grounded in the needs of diverse Minneapolis neighborhoods. Learn more about this fund here.

About the Host

Established in 1915, The Minneapolis Foundation is one of the nation's oldest and largest community foundations. We manage nearly $700 million in assets, and administer more than 1,000 charitable funds created by individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofits. More than $30 million in grants are distributed from these funds each year, either personally recommended by or in accordance with the legacy wishes of our donors. Our purpose is to join with others to strengthen our community, in measurable and sustainable ways, for the benefit of all citizens, especially those who are disadvantaged.
