When our community initiated Lenawee Cares, local residents told us that they wanted to support the basic needs of the people here, such as food, housing and utilities. We also told donors that we were going to set aside 10% of every gift into an endowment to be saved for when the economy was struggling and the needs were greater than ever. We are announcing the release of $50,000 of the Lenawee Cares endowment as match monies. For every gift contributed by a service club, business, or any person, a dollar-for-dollar match will be provided to help local nonprofits provide for the basic needs of people in our community.
Our community should be incredibly grateful to three organizations willing to step up without hesitation – Kiwanis Club of Adrian, Adrian Morning Rotary Club, and Gleaner Life Insurance Society! They are partnering with Lenawee Cares, a program of Lenawee Community Foundation, to provide the lead gifts to help our neighbors in need.
The History of the Lenawee Community Foundation began in the 1950’s as the Tecumseh Community Fund Foundation. In the earlier days, this foundation operated as an annual fundraiser, distributing the funds raised each year. In 1997 the Foundation changed its focus to become a true foundation, utilizing the permanent endowment concept. Because of a commitment to serve the entire county, the name was legally changed to Lenawee Community Foundation in 2005. The Lenawee Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, approved by the Internal Revenue Service for federal deductions for gifts.
