Code for America

San Francisco, California, United States https://codeforamerica.org/

Mission

Code for America uses the principles and practices of the digital age to improve how government serves the public. We all do better when communities across the country have what they need to thrive. At Code for America, we strive to reach the families and individuals who have been marginalized or excluded by government services. In 2022, we delivered $3.34 billion in benefits and helped over 4 million people, including families with low or no incomes and people with criminal records.

Removing barriers resulting from the criminal legal system: Code for America works with people inside and outside of government to build technology, design and implement policies, and reinvest in communities to improve access to employment, housing, health, education, and more.

Strengthening the social safety net: Right now, the people who need access to government benefits the most are not included in the design of government programs and services. And this exclusion results in barriers to America’s social safety net.

Promoting economic justice through tax benefits: At Code for America, we believe that financial stability should be equitable, inclusive, and guaranteed to everyone.

Mobilizing a national network: Code for America’s vision extends beyond one organization. Our mission to inspire change is part of a Network of thousands of people who are dedicated to putting technology to work for the benefit of our local communities.
