Our Mission
Equality Virginia advocates and organizes across the Virginia Commonwealth to build a future where all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and broader spectrum of people (LGBTQ+), have the safety to thrive. Because when Virginia is safe for ALL LGBTQ+ people, Virginia is safer for everyone.

Our Vision
Virginia’s history is not one that has been kind to LGBTQ+ people. Generally, Virginia has been an anti-equality state, pushing back and fighting against Queer joy and resistance. We believe in creating a new narrative. One that is based in collective, community-created safety. This gives us the ability and dignity to thrive, build power, and engage in politics at all levels. With collective safety and power, we fight against harmful policy attempts while looking for the way to move forward. It is hard, tiring work.

We do not promise that we will always do it perfectly, however we will continue to show up to the fight. The LGBTQ+ community is not a monolith and defies borders and binaires, therefore as a single organization, we cannot ever claim to speak for the full community. Instead, we seek to do work with the help and guidance from community members and partners. We do this until there is equality for all.
