Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland was established in 1982 by Dottie Hanson (left) and Rita Jenkins (right) in an effort to address hunger in their community. Our founders scraped together enough change to purchase PO Box 821 – which we still use today – and set to work with no idea where their vision would lead. Since our establishment, FAKH has grown to serve 42 central, south- central and western Kentucky counties, and has distributed more than 300 million pounds of food and grocery items – the equivalent of over 250 million meals and counting!
