As the global pandemic of COVID-19 has descended upon the world, we have come to witness a remarkable outpouring of support by the Indian American Diaspora. Perhaps never before has there been such a coming together of this community that spans across age, religion and organizations.

The Indian American Diaspora makes up approximately 3.9 million Americans today according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau and are one the fastest growing ethnic group in the country with a growth rate of nearly seventy percent. The diaspora is an affluent community, recognized as being highly educated and having one of the highest median household incomes of any ethnic community in the United States.

The diaspora’s response to help has been across the board with efforts to help in both the United States and India. Actions taken range from providing meals, dry ration and hygiene kits, personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks and gloves to both frontline health workers and individuals, e-learning platforms for kids, healthcare, and legal resources.

This report is intended to be a compilation of non-profit organizations responding to the crisis. We take note that for profit entities are also involved in response efforts, however those are beyond the scope of this report.
