N Street Village serves nearly 3,000 women experiencing homelessness and low income each year. We aim to help these women claim their highest quality of life by offering a broad spectrum of services, housing, and advocacy in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. We help women achieve stability and make meaningful gains in their housing, income, employment, mental health, physical health, and addiction recovery.
For over 50 years, N Street Village has provided housing and services for homeless and low-income women. We help nearly 3,000 women gain and maintain improvements in housing, health, employment, and income. Over 50% of the women we serve have no source of income at entry. Nearly 20% were living outdoors, and 47% are managing a mental illness and/or substance use disorder. 80% are African American and 53% are over the age of 50.
The long-term benefits of this program are to enroll women into the city-wide housing qualification process and to help them gain and maintain improvements in their health, employment, and income. Women who engage in our programs achieve outcomes above the national benchmarks. For example, only 70% of women with mental illness placed in housing nationally are expected to remain for a year. However, in the Village, over 95% of the women with mental illness are stably housed a year later.
To empower homeless and low-income women and families to claim their highest quality of life and optimal self-sufficiency by offering a broad spectrum of housing, support services and advocacy in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.
