About
Better home for better life is an idea to improve the socio economic condition and to ensure the food security and food safety of the local people through supporting with environment friendly farming (agriculture and animal husbandry) and fishing etc in each family. BEDS is currently supporting 60 families under better home for better life project. This initiative will not only improve the socio economic condition of the marginal villagers, but also give them strength to face COVID-19 pandemic.
Need
Bangladesh is the densely populated country. A large number of people are poor. It is the major problem for the Sundarbans coastal community due to lack of working scope in the locality. The villagers are completely dependent on the Sundarbans forest resources. During the global pandemic, coastal people can't move outside due to the government restriction. But hand to mouth people is in epic jeopardy. At this situation they are suffering food crisis with their family members.
Long term impact
We don't know how long the COVID-19 will continue so such kind of income generating activities will support the marginal coastal communities to survive in such situation. Even after COVID-19 situation people can improve their livelihood through this Agro farming activities and it is promising alternative income generating sector for reducing the pressure of the Sundarbans natural forest resources.
