Educate a Girl, Educate a Nation - Sierra Leone

Host Organization: Develop Africa, Inc.mdi-circle-small Johnson City, Tennessee, United States mdi-circle-small http://www.developafrica.org

About

In Sierra Leone, too many girls face barriers to education-but you can change that. This project is dedicated to breaking those barriers by providing tuition support, books, school supplies, tutoring, nutritious meals, uniforms, mentoring, computer training, and STEM programs. When you invest in a girl's education, you're not just changing her future-you're empowering her to break the cycle of poverty, become a self-reliant leader, and uplift her entire community.

Need

Girls in Sierra Leone face systemic barriers that prevent them from accessing education and realizing their potential. Poverty, cultural norms, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based discrimination contribute to limited opportunities for girls, forcing many to abandon their education at an early age. Without adequate access to school supplies, nutritional support, and safe learning environments, these girls are at risk of falling into cycles of poverty and dependency.

Long term impact

When girls stay in school and thrive, they gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to break the cycle of poverty and become self-sufficient leaders. Over time, this leads to increased employment opportunities, higher incomes, and improved health outcomes for themselves and their families. Educated women are more likely to invest in their children's education. By supporting this initiative, you're not just helping one girl but transforming an entire generation.

About the Organization
