The Sundarbans Region in Bangladesh is prone to cyclones, storm surges, floods, and droughts, including salinity intrusion, rising sea level, river erosion, water logging, and high tides. With its deterioration, millions of people in the region struggle to obtain basic needs like water and electricity. The lack of safe drinking water has led to outbreaks of water borne diseases in poor villages. Villages are enveloped in darkness after sunset due to the lack of electricity.
Cyclone Remal is the first of the frequent storms expected to pound the low-lying coasts of India and Bangladesh this year as climate change drives up surface temperatures at sea. Maksudur Rahman, head of local development organization Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) near the Sundarbans area, said better maintenance of coastal embankments would help limit the damage from storm surges.
The affected families will be started their regular life and doing their business by our support. We will take more necessary action for reducing the risk of climate change.
BEDS mission is to build the capacity of the most vulnerable communities for ensuring sustainable use of natural resources, provide eco-friendly means of living, reduce the adverse impact of climate change and improve the socio-economic condition while maintaining the ecological balance. Vision: To promote ecological balance and create harmony between human and nature
