Connected Cities Northwest: Using Technology to Connect Society

Host Organization: MIT Enterprise Forum NW

The idea of “Connected Cities” began as a marketing push by technology companies, but today the concept has grown to encompass technology-based initiatives to improve the social welfare of our communities. MIT Enterprise Forum and Town Hall Seattle come together to present a panel of experts to examine technologies that have succeeded in improving the quality of life in cities across the world. Exploring modern cities as laboratories for innovation, these experts discuss the advancements in technology that have the potential to improve our quality of life and contribute to the welfare of all citizens.

They weigh the benefits of data openness against the growing need for privacy in an increasingly digital world, and address the technological and administrative steps that are pushing data openness initiatives forward—as well as holding them back. Sit in for a conversation on “Connected Cities” then and now, and learn how these practices have the potential to improve our communication, our decision making, and our overall quality of life.
