When we communicate with people from different cultures, there’s always the risk that what we say or do might offend someone. Oftentimes we don’t know what we did to cause the offense…and how we handle the situation can be the difference between fostering a more inclusive workplace or unintentionally creating a more hostile one.
Dealing with “microaggressions” – defined as verbal and nonverbal cues that convey disrespect toward a particular social group – requires a level of comfort and skill that must be learned and practiced. While avoiding engagement or becoming defensive can be common practice, there are proven practices that can help bring us closer together and heal racial divisions.
This is a collective challenge that most of us – regardless of our race, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin – can relate to.
In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn what racial microaggressions are, learn strategies for effectively engaging people who’ve experienced a microaggression, and increase their comfort in having these courageous conversations. Prepare to have your eyes opened to things you might be doing that are harming others that you have no idea you’re doing.
