Strengthening Flood-Prone Communities [Webinar]

Host Organization: The Pew Charitable Trusts

Join us for Strengthening Flood-Prone Communities: Balancing Short-Term Opportunities With Long-Term Outcomes to Build a More Resilient Nation

A Briefing Webinar
Tuesday, October 31, 2017
2-2:30 p.m. EST

Join The Pew Charitable Trusts for a 30-minute program focused on efforts to modernize our national policies to better safeguard communities and infrastructure from the increasing impacts of severe weather.

Since 2000, flood-related catastrophes have caused more than $500 billion in losses throughout the U.S., making them the costliest and most common disaster threats to the nation. The recent destruction from this year's hurricane season serves as an important reminder that our nation greatly underestimates and is ill-equipped for both the financial and human toll of floods.

And as we mark the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, there has never been a greater need for improved flood readiness of our communities and infrastructure. To learn more about our work on flood-preparedness, watch this short video about how the city of Charleston has taken action after decades of flooding and visit our website.
