Why Aren't We More Explicit About Power?

Host Organization: Philanthropy New York

About

There’s so much exciting work happening in the social sector on the topics of equity and creating sustainable change for communities and systems, but that work doesn’t always explicitly address power. Rather than remain silent or talk around power, let’s talk about it directly and leverage it for more impactful and equitable outcomes.

Join us for this virtual workshop to help you identify ways that power may be manifesting in and affecting you and your work within your organization and when collaborating with external partners. We’ll pull examples and ideas from academic theory, practice and your experiences to explore power in a deeper way. You’ll also have a chance to learn and practice strategies for managing power in a way that helps you build stronger collaborations and reach desired outcomes.

Explore

  • Four ways that power may be manifesting in and affecting you and your work
  • The three dimensions of power and how they operate
  • Strategies for managing power

Facilitator

  • Kim Walker, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Arabella Advisors
