Imagine a place where who you are, where you’re from, and the circumstances that surround you don’t determine your access to experiences or opportunities. Through your support, Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama (BGCWA) is making that vision a reality. Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Since 1961, BGCWA has been committed to providing safe, positive and inclusive environments for all young people–regardless of race, ethnicity, or socio-economic status—to do just that.
Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama is one of 4,300 organizations throughout the country working to fulfill the goal of Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA)—to instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence in every child who walks through our doors. With national support and resources from BGCA headquarters, the BGCA Southeast Regional Service Center and the BGCA Government Relations Office in Washington D.C., our organization has the knowledge base and manpower we need to: develop and test new programs, evaluate program quality, design and establish new Club sites, renovate and expand existing Club sites, train staff on facility management and child safety and address legislative and public policy issues affecting youth.
We have proven programs that address three primary outcomes: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles and Good Character & Citizenship.
Because members are in our care from kindergarten to high school graduation, Club mentors are able to guide and encourage them through every stage of their development. Growing up means navigating strong—often difficult—physical, social, and emotional changes, and our mentors are there for the long-term to be a constant source of wisdom, support, and motivation as they transition from childhood to adolescence and young adulthood.
