Girls Empowerment Network’s mission is to ignite the power in girls by teaching them skills to thrive and believe in their ability to be unstoppable. Through activities and experiences designed to cultivate skills in 6 core domains: (Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication, Coping Skills, Collaboration, and Confidence), the Six Cs. Girls who participate in our programs show significant growth in self-efficacy, which is their belief in their ability to succeed.
Our vision is a world where all girls believe in their power. In our most recently complete data set (the 20-21 school year) we served 1,157 girls through our direct program services (Girl Connect, Spark Change Project, Workshops, Camp, and Pathfinder.) Additionally, 5,004 Spark Kits (available in 4 different themed additions) were sent out to girls since their creation in summer 2020. We also aim to support and educate the adults who surround girls in their lives, so we offer a number of trainings, workshops, volunteer opportunities, and presentations designed to grow our network. During our 2020-2021 year, we reached an additional 1,873 girl advocates through these indirect services. For the girls reached through direct services, 84% of them came from low-income families (as determined by their qualification for the federal free/reduced lunch program). 86% of girls served were girls of color, with the largest group being Latina/Hispanic girls (37%). All girls served are between the ages of 8 and 18, with the largest age group served being 5th graders, who made up 17% of the dataset.
