There is no greater risk to global well-being than that associated with nuclear weapons proliferation—and, given recent developments in hotspots around the world, there is no more timely challenge than the safeguarding of nuclear materials. Today’s threats range from the unintentional (accidental use of nuclear weapons) to the very intentional (i.e., terrorist acquisition of nuclear bomb-making materials, sabotage of nuclear facilities, or crisis escalation resulting in nuclear use).

These issues are critical. The nuclear security sector is in need of an influx of new ideas, new perspectives, and inventive thinkers accustomed to collaborative problem-solving in a highly interdependent, networked world.

N Square was created to catalyze innovation that moves the world toward disarmament while improving global safety and security in the meantime.

A new initiative sponsored by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Ploughshares Fund, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Skoll Global Threats Fund, N Square believes we can invent our way out of the nuclear ear, just as we invented our way into it.
