Justice Funders has just launched a new base-building initiative and formed a new base-building team to carry out this work.

The new team is made up of Jessica Espinoza-Jensen, Director of Funder Organizing; Dino Foxx, Director of Imagination and Culture; Sharon Hing, Director of Collaborative Learning; and the newest member of our team, Sasha Russell-Ciardi, Senior Director of Member Organizing.

  • The role of this team will be to advance Justice Funder’s work organizing the philanthropic sector to advance our shared vision: a world that honors the sacredness of our natural resources and recognizes the inalienable rights of all.
  • The work of this team will be grounded in our praxis of funder organizing, which we define as: a practice of building relationships and leadership to shift power, structures and cultures within philanthropy to advance a Just Transition by turning extracted resources into resources for the regenerative economy.
  • The specific goals of this team will be focused on creating opportunities for organizations and individuals to build community with values-aligned peers, engage in learning, and take collective action as co-conspirators in stewarding a Just Transition for philanthropy.
  • A critical component of our base-building work will be building a base of institutional and individual dues-paying members, to help Justice Funders sustain and grow our work.

Fall Membership Drive Helps with Base-Building

One of the first projects of our new base-building team will be to launch a Fall Membership Drive. Throughout the fall, we will be reaching out to people in our base- people who have taken part in our programs and/or are co-conspiring with us to bring about a Just Transition in the philanthropic sector — and ask if you will take the political stance of joining Justice Funders as an institutional or organizational dues-paying member, and so provide unrestricted support for our political project.
