AMD is known for technologies that help make our world a better place. Beyond advancing technology, as a company, we are committed to advancing communities through corporate philanthropy and employee volunteerism, such as through combating food insecurity.

For more than 40 years, AMD employees have been giving back to their communities, routinely volunteering and raising money for efforts across a broad range of issues, such as combating food insecurity. In collaboration with local food banks, AMD employees are helping provide basic needs like nutritious food in communities around the globe.

Due to the pandemic, the world saw hunger numbers increase at an alarming rate from 2019-2020, and according to the Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFIO), those elevated numbers have remained largely constant in the years since. In 2023, an estimated 733 million people experienced hunger, and 2.3 billion people experienced moderate to severe food insecurity.

In 2022, AMD expanded its global efforts to combat food insecurity by teaming up with Rise Against Hunger. As part of its work, this nonprofit organization provides volunteer-packaged, nutrient-dense meals that support education and health in countries facing high rates of food insecurity. AMD mobilized its employees and hosted meal packaging volunteer events in multiple countries. Over the past three years, the relationship has grown significantly, and last year alone, 2,500+ AMDers packed more than 450,000 meals in 13 different communities.

In Malaysia, the AMD team invited students from INTI International College Penang to join their meal packaging event, combating food insecurity. “This event was more than just a few hours of volunteering. It was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together. Each meal we packaged represents a beacon of hope for someone struggling with hunger,” said Lee Yong Ong, Financial Analyst, AMD in Penang.

Meals packed by AMD volunteers were distributed through Rise Against Hunger to communities facing food insecurity due to economic and environmental constraints and humanitarian relief needs.
