Dreamers and their families are doing their part but are funders ready to mobilize and stand behind them? Here are a few ways your organization can start standing behind dreamers:
Support staff that might be affected by the elimination of DACA. Send a message to your staff affirming that your organization will stand behind all employees regardless of immigration status. Point people to someone in your HR department they can talk to and offer free 24-hour legal support from an immigration lawyer for those who might be personally impacted by this.
Dreamers came out of the shadows, now it is your organization’s turn. If you think rescinding DACA is an injustice that goes against your values then you need to come out and say it publicly as an organization. Social sector organizations hold a lot of influence and taking a stand can help change the public narrative in support of Dreamers and other immigrant communities. Need some inspiration?
