Earlier this year, Borealis deepened its commitment to the Fund for Trans Generations, (FTG) recognizing that organizations serving trans communities need more resources—not fewer—to meet this moment. Today, we’re proud to continue that commitment by awarding $2.6 million in flexible, general operating support to 46 groups leading vital organizing, mutual aid, and cultural work that strengthens the conditions for an inclusive, multiracial democracy that works for all.
As FTG marks its tenth year, this grant cycle also offered a powerful window into what trans serving organizations are navigating under an increasingly hostile landscape. Hundreds of applications reflected the mounting impacts of shrinking philanthropic investment, escalating attacks on trans communities, growing sociopolitical uncertainty, and escalating threats to safety and wellbeing. And yet, despite the challenges, these groups have continued to build the networks of care, leadership, culture, and collective power their communities need to withstand this moment and shape what comes next.
This year’s cohort reflects the breadth and brilliance of trans organizers meeting this moment in countless ways—those who are expanding access to housing and medical care, advancing disability justice, advocating for policy change, strengthening civic participation, supporting migrants, protecting queer and trans youth, cultivating rural leadership, and creating spaces for wellness and art. Together, these organizations are meeting urgent needs while building the long-term infrastructure for unbridled safety, joy, and possibility.
