The G20 is likely to issue a call to action against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) this weekend. AMR is a threat to public health, and increasingly will retard economies. It is excellent to see the G20 are likely to give it some prominence, with a push to achieve new methods of control by 2018.

Perhaps most heartening is the call for “quality” antimicrobials. The tendency of most governments in emerging markets is to buy the cheapest products. It will be interesting and important to see if G20 nations actually follow their rhetoric.
