What is Giving Compass?
We connect donors to learning resources and ways to support community-led solutions. Learn more about us.
Winter is known as the “giving season” where charitable and philanthropic efforts increase and shelters are able to provide for those in need. Whether you donate food, money, or clothing, shelters need your help.
Providing a Warm Meal
Food banks, pantries, and kitchens are local organizations that provide warm meals to people within the community. At a place like the San Antonio Food Bank, or any other food bank for that matter, you can contribute in a few ways:
- Volunteer
- Give a Monetary Donation
- Donate food
Handing Out Winter Clothing
Clothing collections are another way shelters are able to provide for those in need. Although clothing is collected on a year round basis, it’s even more critical in the winter as a means to staying warm. Shelters collect clothing items such as:
- Winter coats
- Socks
- Pants
- Sweaters
- Shoes
