The article reviewed reinforced my own opinion that as teachers we do not have to spend too much time adapting the resources we already have for our lessons when introducing challenge into the classroom. When teaching the more able, I feel that I need to take on the role of learning facilitator and as the article suggests, ‘demand high’ from my students by adopting a different approach with my questioning. The article suggests that teachers should not just accept nor dismiss correct or incorrect answers respectively, yet should continue with their questioning to further explore the reasoning and thinking behind student answers and by using this technique, students can be moved on significantly. The article gives examples of how teachers can modify questions in order to do this and compares it with the familiar question and answer practice which we often find ourselves using in lessons, that is to respond to right answers with praise and then moving on and not demanding or expecting more from our students.
