Giving Compass' Take:

• According to Global Citizen, more people around the world have a mobile phone than a toilet, but a new campaign from Harpic is hoping to change those numbers and expand access to sanitary toilet access for the 2.3 billion people.

• This effort can help people in many different areas — economic opportunities and safety from sexual violence among them — so how can we be part of the effort in addressing sanitation gaps?

• This problem also affects education: Half the world's schools lack clean water and safe toilets

Picture this: You’re at your workplace, or in a restaurant, or walking round a shopping mall, and you need to go to a bathroom — but when you get there, someone says they can’t let you in.

How do you react? Confused? Angry?

That’s exactly what happened when Harpic, an RB brand, stopped 1 in 3 people from accessing a public toilet to support its More Than a Toilet campaign — aiming to highlight the pressing water and sanitation issues that exist in countries around the world.

“It’s ludicrous because I’m going to wee myself right on the floor if you don’t let me go,” said one woman. Another said: “Is this some sort of joke?”
