In its Anti-Poverty Strategy adopted in May 2026, the European Commission announced the launch of a new coalition against poverty, to be unveiled around the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17 October. This EU-level platform will bring together companies and philanthropic organisatiohttps://philea.eu/a-new-european-coalition-against-poverty-is-launching-this-autumn/ns committed to taking concrete action to tackle poverty and social exclusion.

The coalition is based on a simple premise: public policies and funding alone cannot address poverty at the scale required. Businesses and philanthropic organisations have a vital and complementary role to play alongside public authorities. By bringing these actors together, the coalition will aim to strengthen collective action against poverty while increasing the visibility of the important contribution that foundations and companies already make in this field.

Organisations that join the coalition will be invited to sign a Charter and make concrete, measurable commitments. The initiative is designed to encourage sustained engagement rather than one-off actions. In return, members will gain visibility for their work, opportunities to exchange practices with peers across Europe, and a place within a growing EU-wide movement committed to reducing poverty and social exclusion.
